The Western Australia team secured their third consecutive Sheffield Shield victory by winning with 10 wickets during the final session of the match.

Western Australia’s dominance in Australian cricket during the 2020s has been solidified by their third consecutive Sheffield Shield victory, achieved through a dominant 377-run win over Tasmania in the unbalanced final match.

Cameron Gannon, a seasoned bowler, led a dominant bowling performance for WA on Sunday at the WACA. After setting a challenging target of 537 for the Tigers at tea on the fourth day, Gannon’s impressive figures of 5-23 played a crucial role in the team’s victory. In an extended third session, WA managed to take all 10 wickets, limiting the visitors to a mere 160 runs.

WA officially extended their dynasty – sealing an unprecedented “triple double” with their hat-trick of titles complemented by their three straight Marsh Cup one-day trophies – when Tasmanian tail-ender Iain Carlisle fell to a diving screamer by Joel Paris at gully off a Gannon bouncer.

Captain Jordan Silk was the only player who put up a fight with his 46 runs for the Tigers. Their unlikely chase of the huge target got off to a bad start as they quickly fell to a score of 26-3 after losing Matthew Wade (3), Charlie Wakim (15), and Caleb Jewell (8).

Wade, a retired Test wicketkeeper, received warm applause as he finished his forgettable final performance in first-class cricket. In his first innings, the 36-year-old only scored one run and in the second innings, he was quickly dismissed after charging at Gannon. Unfortunately, his attempt resulted in a nick to WA gloveman Josh Inglis.

Silk also edged one to Inglis before Hilton Cartwright took a pair of catches to dismiss Jake Doran (31) and Shield player of the season Beau Webster (19). Gannon trapped Jarrod Freeman plumb in front for a second-ball duck before Corey Rocchiccioli spun through the tail, following his first-innings 4-48 with 3-55.

Using individual match statistics of 8-61, Gannon not only made an impact on the field, but also contributed to Western Australia’s score of 376 with a powerful 42 runs at the No 10 position. Cartwright led the second innings with a score of 94 for the home team, while Tasmania were continuously dominated by WA’s strong performance.

Skipper Sam Whiteman was awarded the title of player of the game for his daring score of 104 in the first innings, which helped WA reach a total of 347 after being put in to bat by the Tigers. The Tigers struggled to keep up and only managed a score of 186 in response.
