The nominees for the 2024 Bafta Games Awards are Baldur’s Gate, Spider-Man, and Alan Wake in the lead.

The 20th Bafta games awards nominations have been revealed by Bafta, and the ceremony will be held in London on April 11th.

Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios has received the most nominations this year with a total of 10. Following closely behind are Spider-Man 2 with nine nominations, Alan Wake 2 with eight, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor with six each. Hi-Fi Rush, an exciting music game from Tango Gameworks in Japan, has been nominated five times, along with Mintrocket’s popular game Dave the Diver.

Since 1998, Bafta has recognized the creative accomplishments in the video game world alongside those in film and TV. Previously known as the Bafta interactive entertainment awards, the event became individualized as the Bafta games awards in 2004. The winners are chosen by both Bafta’s professional members and specialized juries, and the EE’s players’ choice award is determined by a public vote.

Last year’s award ceremony saw a surprise win for indie game Vampire Survivors, with its retro-inspired monster-shooting gameplay, over formidable competitors Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok. This year’s nominees for the best game award include popular RPG Baldur’s Gate, the thrilling horror game Alan Wake 2, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros Wonder, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by PlayStation’s Insomniac Games, and Dave the Diver, a whimsical game about a sushi chef in pursuit of his own fish.

Modifications were made to the awards procedure this year, which entailed extending the voting period for members by an additional three months and disclosing the 60-game longlist publicly. Bafta’s executive director of awards and content, Emma Baehr, emphasized the diverse range of nominees, including several debut developers. Baehr noted that while big-budget games like Baldur’s Gate lead with 10 nominations, there is also recognition for a British indie game, Viewfinder, with four nominations. Furthermore, the performance categories feature 11 out of 12 first-time nominees, who Bafta eagerly anticipates welcoming.
