The Lions have made history in rugby by scheduling a match against Argentina in Dublin.

On Thursday, the team announced that the British & Irish Lions will be playing against Argentina in Dublin as part of their preparations for the 2025 tour to Australia. This will mark their debut game in Ireland.

The match is scheduled to take place at Aviva Stadium on June 20, 2025. The two teams will compete for the Lions 1888 Cup, commemorating the inaugural British team tour of the southern hemisphere.

“Lions CEO Ben Calveley expressed excitement for the upcoming opportunity to play in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, with a crowd of over 50,000 fans. He believes it will be a fantastic occasion and the ideal send-off.”

The British & Irish Lions tours have a long tradition spanning 130 years, but as much as we value our history, it’s crucial to seek ways to improve our tours. This pre-tour event is a prime example of that, following the successful pre-tour match against Japan at Murrayfield in 2021.

The Lions are scheduled to compete in three Tests against Australia, as well as facing off against five Super Rugby teams and an invitational squad comprised of players from Australia and New Zealand.
