The top upcoming games to anticipate in 2024.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Known for their impressive depictions of Japanese urban areas and lightheartedly nonsensical humor, the Like a Dragon series has primarily centered on the story of hesitant gangster Kazuma Kiryu – but this installment takes us to Hawaii, where a fresh face named Ichiban Kasuga leads an eccentric group of comrades. Among them are a person who can kill with a mop and another with spiked balls for hands. This game is perfect for those seeking a getaway to a tropical paradise that will also bring plenty of laughter.

On January 26, the PlayStation 4/5, Xbox, and PC will be available.

Tekken 8

The fighting game genre is unique in its ability to combine stylish elements with absurdity, and the newest addition to Namco’s well-established series features an exciting lineup of characters such as leopard-men, cyborgs, muscular shirtless martial artists, boxers, and assassins. Additionally, a surprisingly adorable single-player Arcade Quest mode will guide players through the fundamentals before they challenge others in online matches.

Pacific Drive

Survival road trip … Pacific Drive.

Explore the Pacific northwest in your frequently malfunctioning vehicle amidst a paranormal disturbance, gather resources and evade the seemingly sentient lightning, and restore your reliable car at the garage afterwards – assuming you make it back alive. This game focuses on the dynamic between the player and their car as the main highlight.

“Reimagining of the classic RPG, Final Fantasy VII”

“Revamped version of the iconic RPG, Final Fantasy VII”

Square Enix has dedicated approximately ten years to revamping their beloved 1997 game Final Fantasy VII, resulting in a stunning and technically advanced trilogy. This is the second installment, where players can once again join Cloud Strife and his team as they fight against the notorious Sephiroth, who seeks to destroy their world. Tetsuya Nomura’s visually striking character designs and Nobuo Uematsu’s iconic soundtrack have been updated and refreshed without sacrificing their impact.
PlayStation 5, 29 February

Life By You

The first serious competitor to The Sims in more than 20 years gives you an almost worrying level of control and intervention in your little simulants’ lives, letting you drop into their days and either watch them go about their business, or tweak what they say and how they behave. With tremendous potential for player-led storytelling and experimentation, this social sandbox might reveal more than we’d like about our inner nature.
PC, 5 March

Dragon’s Dogma II

2012’s Dragon’s Dogma is a unique game that combines elements of high-fantasy and Japanese style. This sequel brings us back to a perilous fantasy realm filled with drama and massive creatures. With a team of customizable companions, including the option to adjust their facial features, players venture out into the wilderness to battle dragons, wraiths, and other lurking enemies. A game perfect for those who enjoy intense fighting.

On March 22nd, the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC will all be available.

Baby Steps

All in your stride … Baby Steps.

Nate is not very successful, but when he is suddenly transported from his comfortable home in his parents’ basement to a confusing swamp, he must learn to move forward step by step. As the player, you struggle with the controller to guide Nate’s feet onto the ground and keep him from falling over, trying to prevent his already dirty adult onesie from getting even dirtier. This is a bizarre comedy set in Australia.
PlayStation 5, PC, summer 2024

Hades II

In Hades by Supergiant, players assume the role of Zagreus, the unexpectedly alluring offspring of Hades, as he struggles to escape the underworld through a seemingly endless loop of dying and being reborn. The upcoming sequel will have players take on the role of Melinoë, Zagreus’ sister and princess of the underworld, as they push the boundaries of hell in their fight. The game features witty writing and provocative interpretations of Greek mythology.
PlayStation 4/5, Xbox, PC, summer 2024

Star Wars Outlaws

Rebel rebel … Star Wars Outlaws.

The current feeling of exhaustion towards Star Wars is evident, however, Ubisoft Massive’s approach to the expansive universe is captivating. The game, which will be the first open-world Star Wars game ever, allows players to control a charming space outlaw named Kay Vess as they engage in illicit activities with a lovable, small, furry land-axolotl. The game’s visuals are gritty and exhilarating, promising an enjoyable experience as you explore various well-known planets from the Star Wars franchise.

The gaming platforms available in 2024 include PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

I am grateful that you have arrived!

Northern uproar … Thank Goodness You’re Here!

Described by its developers as “like an unnecessarily horny seaside postcard”, this bizarre adventure game channels the spirit of the Beano and Viz. In a fictional northern town, you help the residents with their bizarro problems, from Big Ron’s Big Pie Shop to the local allotment.

The gaming systems available are PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch, with a release date of 2024.

Animal Well

A haunting and enigmatic game with pixelated graphics that the developer aims to keep players engaged in for an extended period as they uncover its numerous hidden elements. You assume the role of a small, amorphous creature in the depths, utilizing whatever resources you can to divert the attention of larger creatures and avoid becoming their meal.

The gaming platforms that will be available in 2024 are PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

“The Deep still wakes”

Choppy waters … Still Wakes the Deep.

This tense and eerie suspense story takes place on an oil rig in the North Sea during the 1970s, created by the skilled storytellers at The Chinese Room, known for their immersive games Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Explore the incredibly detailed portrayal of Scottish oil rig workers and their bleak surroundings, filled with dull brown interiors and the constantly churning grey ocean – and uncover the secrets that lie beneath the drilling.

The gaming consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, as well as PC, will be available in 2024.

The Plucky Squire

Off the page … The Plucky Squire.

This excessively charming platform game sees its tiny hero leaping from the pages of a storybook into a real-world bedroom – an idea (and an art style) that’s impossible to resist. Looks like a cross between Pikmin and Adventure Time.
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, PC, Nintendo Switch, 2024

Avowed

Although Starfield was enjoyable, it has been quite a while since we last had a true first-person fantasy RPG. It will still be a considerable amount of time before Bethesda unveils their next installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following 2011’s Skyrim. However, Obsidian, renowned for their RPG expertise, has come to the rescue with an exciting new swords and sorcery adventure to satisfy our longing.

The Xbox Series S/X will be available for PC users in 2024.
